The Autonomous Region of Madeira has been nominated in five categories for the 2026 European edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA). Destination Madeira is competing in four categories, while the Madeira Promotion Association (APM) is vying for the title of Europe's Leading Tour Operator.
Nominations for Destination Madeira include Europe's Leading Island Destination, Europe's Leading Adventure Tourism Destination, Europe's Best Beach Destination – Porto Santo, and Europe's Leading Festival and Event Destination. The APM is nominated for Europe's Leading Tour Operator, a title it previously won in the 2024 and 2025 editions.
The nomination for Madeira as Europe's Leading Island Destination is particularly noteworthy, having won this award 11 times since 2013. Regional Secretary for Tourism, Environment, and Culture, Eduardo Jesus, described the nominations as recognition of the quality and consistency of the work carried out, emphasizing Madeira's continued presence among Europe's top destinations and the responsibility to further enhance the tourist experience.
