The Madeira Ornithological Association (AOM) will be present at the 12th Sado International in Setúbal, with a delegation of 23 birds belonging to seven breeders.
The increase in air transport fees for live animals was the main factor preventing a larger Madeiran contingent. The representatives from Madeira are António Teixeira, José Baptista, José Aldónio Nóbrega, Luís Palomino, João Paulo Silva, João Fernandes, and Pedro Garanito.
The event, organized by the Setúbal Ornithological Club, takes place from September 11th to 13th at the Port of Setúbal, with an expected participation of over 1,500 birds. The AOM highlights the event's importance, where it has achieved notable rankings in the past, and expresses its commitment to continue participating, even with logistical challenges.
The AOM's board expressed surprise at the increased air transport fees and is in dialogue with official entities to find solutions, aiming to ensure that breeding conditions do not hinder future competition.
