The Madeira Photography Museum – Atelier Vicente’s opens Ricardo Lopes's 'Blessed Ground' exhibition, focusing on the impacts of gold mining in Mozambique.

The Madeira Photography Museum – Atelier Vicente’s opens the 'Blessed Ground' exhibition by photographer Ricardo Lopes this Thursday, October 8th, at 5 PM. The event will be attended by the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Environment, and Culture, Eduardo Jesus, and features 25 photographs.

Lopes's work addresses the profound transformations in the landscape, economy, and lives of rural Mozambican communities along the Púnguè and Revuè rivers due to gold mining. The exhibition explores environmental and human impacts, including contamination from mercury and cyanide.

Eduardo Jesus highlighted the museum's role in showcasing distant realities that raise universal questions. 'Blessed Ground' was featured in the Sofia 2025 International Photography Biennial and received the CC11 Photography Award 2025. The exhibition runs until January 2027.
