The national director of the Public Security Police (PSP), Luís Carrilho, stated that security in Madeira is a "shared responsibility," emphasizing the importance of coordination between the PSP, the regional administration, and local councils.
During the commemorations of the 148th anniversary of the PSP Madeira Regional Command, Carrilho underscored the relationship of trust with local entities, deeming it "indispensable" in a region with a dynamic tourism sector.
A review of the PSP Madeira's activities up to July 30, 2026, revealed that despite a slight increase in general crime, violent and serious crime saw a "sharp decrease" of 37%, a situation contrasting with the rise observed nationally during the same period.
