The island of Madeira has been recognized as one of the world's best island destinations, securing 4th place in the European rankings and 16th place in the global rankings of the 'Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards 2026'. The classification was based on evaluations from over 207,000 readers of the US publication.
Evaluation criteria included natural attractions, activities, gastronomy, hospitality, and value for money. The Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Environment and Culture highlighted Madeira's mild climate, natural landscape, Laurisilva Forest, outdoor experiences, regional cuisine, and Madeira wine as distinguishing factors.
Regional Secretary for Tourism, Eduardo Jesus, stated that this distinction, awarded by travelers themselves, enhances the archipelago's international recognition and competitiveness in foreign markets, demonstrating its capacity to establish itself as a desired tourist destination.
