Madeira Island registered a total of 251 fires in the first eight months of the year. The municipality of Câmara de Lobos was the most affected, with 67 incidents.
Brush fires accounted for 86% of the total cases and required the involvement of over 2,500 operational personnel in firefighting efforts. For the upcoming reforestation season, the Forest and Nature Conservation Institute (IFCN) has prepared 172,000 plants in its nurseries.
