The Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded 4,181 workplace accidents in 2024, a 3.2% decrease compared to the previous year. However, despite the overall reduction in workplace incidents, the number of fatal accidents more than doubled, rising from three to five.
Construction remained the sector with the highest incidence of accidents, accounting for 22.1% of the total. This was followed by accommodation and catering (16.0%) and commerce (14.5%). Construction also saw the largest decrease in accidents, with 11.2% fewer incidents than in 2023.
Data indicates that most accidents involved male workers (70.6%) and individuals aged between 35 and 54 (51.8%). Skilled construction workers were the most affected group, with 654 occurrences. Industrial zones were the locations where the most accidents occurred (20.2%).
