The economy of Madeira has maintained a consistent growth trajectory for the last 64 months. The regional Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached approximately 7.5 billion euros in 2024, as highlighted by the Regional Secretary for the Economy, José Manuel Rodrigues.
Rodrigues presented indicators pointing to positive developments in employment, wages, tourism, and the business sector. As of August this year, the region had 137,800 workers, a significant increase since 2015, with the average salary rising to 1,748 euros. The unemployment rate stood at 3.5% in the second quarter of 2026.
External trade also showed a positive balance, with a surplus of 65.4 million euros in the first half of the year. The number of new companies established exceeded dissolutions by 442 entities during the same period.
