The PSD-Madeira parliamentary group presented a motion of congratulations at the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira marking the 130th anniversary of the Machico Municipal Band. The initiative recognises the institution's century-long contribution to culture, musical training and the preservation of local traditions.
Founded on 1 November 1896, the band has remained a constant presence in the municipality's cultural and community life, from religious and popular celebrations to public ceremonies. Lawmakers also highlighted its training school and youth orchestra, which pass on musical knowledge to new generations.
The band's activities extend to the Tuna de Tocares e Cantares, the Santos Populares marches and a Carnival troupe. The motion pays tribute to the founders, leaders, musicians and members who have built the institution over 130 years.
