The Madeira Ethnographic Museum, under the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Environment, and Culture, will hold another workshop in the gastronomic-cultural cycle “Flavors at the Museum” next Wednesday, October 21, at 11:30 AM. The event, organized in partnership with the Atremar a Ilha Association, aims to combine gastronomic experience with the exploration of popular culture.
The workshop will focus on the traditional Collard Green Soup, led by Sandra Cardoso, also known as A Biqueira. This soup, a representative dish of Madeira's rural heritage, includes collard greens, sweet potato, potato, beans, and salted pork. The session will also cover regional specificities of this recipe, with examples from Porto Santo and Santa, in Porto Moniz.
Sandra Cardoso emphasizes the vibrancy of Madeiran popular gastronomy and its variations, reflecting the isolation, climate, and resources of each locality. Regional Secretary for Tourism, Environment, and Culture, Eduardo Jesus, highlights the importance of traditional cuisine as part of Madeiran cultural identity, noting that such initiatives help preserve heritage and continue ancestral knowledge.
The workshops are open to visitors of all ages, with a limited capacity of 50 participants. Registration must be made in advance via email at [email protected] or by phone at 291 145 326.
