Madeira Island has selected its seven representatives for the national 'New 7 Wonders of Portugal' competition. The initiative, organized by the company EIPWU and broadcast on TVI, saw the most voted regional sites advance to the next stage.
The chosen candidates include the Forte de Nossa Senhora do Amparo (Machico) in the Castles category, the Teleférico da Rocha do Navio (Santana) in Great Works, the Casas de Colmo de Santana in History, the Igreja Matriz de S. Jorge (Santana) in Religion, the Mercado dos Lavradores in the 20th Century category, the Casa das Mudas (Calheta) in the 21st Century, and the Jardim Monte Palace in Tourism.
These heritage sites, which received the most votes in the regional final, have secured their place in the national semi-final of the competition, with the process running until the end of August.
