A tent set up in the outer courtyard of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira obscured the "Trilogy of Powers" sculpture, a work by Madeiran artist Amândio de Sousa.
The piece, inaugurated on December 4, 1990, honors the three pillars of democratic governance: Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary. Three united female figures hold a cloth inscribed in Latin with "Juris et de Jure," meaning "by right and according to law."
The sculpture's covering occurred during the ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the installation of Madeira's first Regional Assembly.
