The Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Environment and Culture (SRTAC), through the Regional Directorate for Culture, will present the reissue of the work 'Canhenhos da Ilha' by Madeiran writer Horácio Bento de Gouveia on Friday, July 21st, at 3:00 PM, at the Madeira Photography Museum – Atelier Vicente’s.
Originally published in 1966, the book compiles chronicles and journalistic texts by the author, primarily published in Diário de Notícias between 1960 and 1966, offering a portrait of Madeiran society at the time, its customs, and cultural identity. The new edition also includes the original illustrations by António Aragão.
This initiative is part of an editorial project by SRTAC/DRC to recover the literary legacy of Horácio Bento de Gouveia, a prominent figure in Madeiran literature of the 20th century. Regional Secretary Eduardo Jesus highlighted that the reissue "allows for the rediscovery of a fundamental work for the collective memory of the Region."
