MadeiraShopping and PLAZA Madeira are the only establishments in the Autonomous Region of Madeira included in the "Stay Cool" National Network of Climate Shelters, an initiative by Turismo de Portugal.
This network aims to enhance the protection of residents and tourists during extreme heat episodes, aligning with the Climate Action Agenda for Tourism 2030. Its goal is to support the tourism sector's adaptation to climate change by identifying and promoting locations offering temporary shelter and thermal comfort.
The initiative allows for the free use of spaces with suitable features, such as air-conditioned or well-ventilated areas, access to drinking water, and rest zones. The national network already comprises 220 locations, including 10 in the Azores.
