The Regional Secretary for Health and Civil Protection, Micaela Fonseca de Freitas, visited teams from the Army and the Public Security Police (PSP) involved in surveillance and patrolling.
Freitas stressed the importance of these teams for public safety and direct community contact, stating that "people feel secure." The official also praised the effectiveness of the joint work coordinated with the Regional Operations Centre for Relief (CROS).
Since early July, Army teams have conducted 56 patrols, covering over 9,200 km. The PSP, since June, has covered more than 28,000 km with 264 personnel, issuing citations for unauthorized bonfires. The Army has doubled its operational capacity this year, as part of the Special Device for Combating Rural Fires (DECIR), which has an investment of 1.6 million euros.
