Miguel Albuquerque warned about the risks of digital dependence, considering that these new forms of addiction can have "detrimental effects on people's mental health" and constitute "serious risks to public health, to mental sanity."
At the opening session of the VI Convention on Addictive Behaviors and Dependencies of Madeira and the II Convention of Macaronesia, the President of the Regional Government highlighted the effects of technological evolution, particularly artificial intelligence, algorithms, and biotechnology.
Albuquerque argued that the response to addictive behaviors should begin before the illness, promoting health in society through public policies focused on sports, combating loneliness, and creating spaces for social interaction.
