A video shared on social media depicts a group of motorcyclists riding on the Madeira Expressway (VR1) at speeds significantly above the legal limits. The footage, with an unknown recording date, shows one motorcycle's speedometer reaching nearly 240 km/h.
Throughout the video, other traffic is visible while the speedometer registers speeds around 230 to 240 km/h, more than double the road's general speed limit of 90 km/h, which can extend to 100 km/h in signposted areas with dry conditions.
The video has sparked widespread criticism on social media, with users highlighting the danger such driving poses to road safety. Last month, authorities detected 563 infractions during national campaigns focused on motorcycle and moped user safety in the Autonomous Regions.
