The sole deputy of Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) in the Assembly of the Republic, Filipe Sousa, celebrated the Parliament President's admission of the party's request to form a Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry (CPI) into the exercise of powers by the Judicial Police (PJ).
Sousa described the decision as an "important step to credentialize politics, democracy, and institutions," calling it a "victory for democracy." The JPP's proposal aims to assess the administrative procedures and control mechanisms of the PJ, as well as the exercise of governmental oversight and monitoring powers during Luís Neves' tenure as national director.
The initiative reflects the JPP's stance to "clarify facts before drawing political consequences, without replacing Justice or presuming guilt." The proposal covers PJ contracts, conflict of interest prevention, procedures related to seized assets, and the actions of government officials. The committee's formation now awaits Plenary approval, with Filipe Sousa appealing for support from other parties to "provide answers" to the Portuguese public's doubts.
