The Judicial Court of the Madeira District has sentenced a 29-year-old Nepalese man to three years of effective prison time for attempted rape.
The incident took place in the early hours of June 2, 2025, in Funchal. The victim, a 33-year-old woman, resisted the assault and called for help, leading to the intervention of bystanders and preventing the crime from being completed.
The court's decision was based on the victim's testimony, witness statements, and evidence including DNA and photographs from the defendant's phone showing a tongue injury. He was also ordered to pay court costs.
