The trial for alleged qualified fraud, computer falsification, and document forgery, considered the largest fraud involving the Social Mobility Subsidy, began this Tuesday in the Funchal Court.
Of the 16 defendants, 12 were present at the first session. The group is allegedly led by a Funchal travel agent and includes two lawyers, a PJ inspector, and a singer.
Four of the defendants chose to provide statements during the trial, which investigates a fraud estimated at €2.5 million.
