Companhia de Autocarros da Madeira (CAM) has introduced new electric buses on its Aerobus service, connecting Madeira International Airport with Funchal.
The vehicles are part of a €5.2 million investment announced in September to renew and modernise the company’s fleet, reduce pollutant emissions, and support more sustainable transport. Of the eight electric buses purchased, five are allocated to the Aerobus service and three to public transport in Porto Santo.
The new airport buses can carry 60 passengers, have dedicated luggage space, and are powered by 528 kWh batteries. The investment includes €2.7 million in funding from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). CAM estimates that electrifying these services will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 850 tonnes a year.
