Engineering plays a crucial role in the sustainable development of islands, as exemplified in Porto Santo. The Order of Engineers of the Madeira Region has promoted actions and initiatives, including technical visits, to highlight the importance of this field.
A notable project is the new water intake gallery for public supply on the golden island. With a total cost of approximately six million euros, this infrastructure represents a significant investment.
According to Dr. Miguel Albuquerque, the gallery is 85 meters long and located about 5 meters below mean sea level. This project, carried out by ARM, will increase water intake capacity, which will later be treated at the desalination plant, showcasing the power of Portuguese engineering.
