The Nova Direita party held an initiative in the municipality of Calheta, attended by foreign investors, specifically from Germany and Austria. The aim was to promote investment in Madeira's culture, heritage, and sustainable development, according to Paulo Azevedo, the party's coordinator in RAM.
Nova Direita criticized the current regional policy for focusing too heavily on civil construction, neglecting the valorization of Madeiran culture, traditions, and identity. During their visit, the party encountered an abandoned construction project on the Jardim do Mar promenade, which had been funded by European funds.
Paulo Azevedo publicly questioned the management of these funds, the reasons for the project's halt, and who was responsible for its execution. The party plans to formally request explanations from the Calheta Municipal Council and inform relevant European entities, demanding transparency and accountability in the use of public and European money.
