The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Fisheries, Nuno Maciel, highlighted the current good phase of the banana sector, attributing it to policies of rigor, transparency, and strategic vision implemented by the Regional Government through GESBA.
Maciel assured that producers are receiving higher and timely payments, with the purchase of all production guaranteed, providing stability and predictability. He noted that GESBA has not only reversed negative results but also ensured the outflow of all production, maintaining price stability for over 2,800 farmers.
Furthermore, GESBA provided collective crop insurance worth 17 million euros and advanced 7.5 million euros in POSEI funds. The average price paid to producers increased to 1.09 euros per kilogram, with an additional bonus of 5 cents, resulting in an extraordinary payment of 1.05 million euros. The company reduced its liabilities by 18.62% and shortened payment terms by 15 days.
