Nurses' Order Requests Miguel Albuquerque's Intervention to Unblock Hiring of 80 Nurses

The Order of Nurses (OE) has appealed for direct intervention from the Regional Government president, Miguel Albuquerque, to unblock the hiring of approximately 80 nurses.

The OE considers the guarantees provided by the Regional Secretariat for Health and Civil Protection insufficient, even though the recruitment reserve remains valid until January 2027. The organization points to a "structural shortage of professionals" leading to exhaustion and an increase in nurses declining responsibilities.

According to the OE, the hiring process is dependent on authorization from the Finance department. OE president Luís Filipe Barreira stated that if the Health authority cannot resolve the issue, Albuquerque must "intervene directly with the Finances." The Order fears that newly graduated nurses may seek opportunities outside Madeira.
