An extensive accumulation of waste, comprising household appliances, mattresses, furniture, wood, plastics, metals, and scrap, has been identified on land adjacent to the municipal warehouse in São Vicente, on Estrada do Pé de Lombo.
The images highlight the scale of the problem, which is particularly concerning due to its proximity to a watercourse. Environmentalists have warned of the risk of contamination from leachate.
The São Vicente Municipal Council has contracted a certified company to undertake the sorting, separation, and transport of the waste to Meia Serra. The operation is expected to cost around 20,000 euros, with the aim of clearing the site within the current month.
