The President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, expressed satisfaction with the introduction of eight new 100% electric buses by Companhia de Autocarros da Madeira (CAM).
These vehicles, comprising five 12-meter and three 10-meter Karsan models, will serve two routes on the island of Porto Santo and the Aerobus service in Madeira. The initiative aims to reduce annual CO2 emissions by over 850 tonnes.
The total investment, including electric charging infrastructure, amounts to approximately 5.2 million euros, with 2.7 million euros funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) via the REPowerEU component (DESCARBONIZAR_RAM). Albuquerque highlighted the significance of this public service line, noting the 5.7 million passengers at Madeira's airports and the enhanced appeal for Porto Santo.
