Open-air garbage dump in São Vicente raises environmental concerns

An open-air garbage dump in São Vicente, near a watercourse, is generating environmental concerns and requires urgent intervention.

Recent photographs reveal a large accumulation of waste, including appliances, mattresses, and metal, on Estrada do Pé de Lombo, adjacent to the São Vicente municipal warehouse.

The proximity to a watercourse exacerbates the situation, with environmentalists warning of contamination risks from leachate. They advocate for rapid sorting and routing of materials.

The São Vicente City Council has contracted a certified company for waste sorting and transport to Meia Serra, at an estimated cost of 20,000 euros, with cleanup expected this month.
