The Regional Secretary for Inclusion, Labour and Youth, Paula Margarido, highlighted the relevance of the concept of "hospitality" at the presentation of Father Aires Gameiro's new book, titled "S. João de Deus e as Dimensões da sua Hospitalidade — Ensaios Monográficos" (St. John of God and the Dimensions of his Hospitality — Monographic Essays). The work, published by Manufactura, gathers 18 essays dedicated to different dimensions of the life and actions of St. John of God, founder of the Hospitaller Order.
Paula Margarido emphasized the journey of Father Aires Gameiro, a priest, psychologist, researcher, and writer, and his connection to Madeira, highlighting the dimensions of "caring, studying, and writing." The regional secretary focused the presentation on three verbs, "to see, to welcome, and not to give up," to synthesize a way of caring rooted in the 16th century but considered to remain fully relevant.
Dignity must be at the centre of intervention, she argued, considering that this perspective transcends the hospital context and applies to various areas of social intervention. The official thanked Father Aires Gameiro for his journey and connection to Madeira, noting his ability, at 97 years old, to continue researching, writing, and sharing knowledge.
