Paulo Cafôfo Criticizes Madeira's PSD/CDS Government, Highlighting Wealth Distribution and Health Issues

Paulo Cafôfo, concluding the debate on the State of the Region, criticized the PSD/CDS governance, stating the discussion should not be reduced to extreme narratives.

According to Cafôfo, the island's reality fits neither the government's propaganda nor the opposition's "defeatism." He highlighted five "evaluation tests" for the government, starting with the cost of living and the low purchasing power of Madeirans. He pointed out that despite economic growth, wealth does not reach the majority of the population due to a distribution problem, and questioned the claim of lower taxes in Madeira compared to the Azores.

The socialist leader also addressed the health situation, mentioning long waiting lists for clinical procedures, a shortage of family doctors, and a high number of clinically discharged patients remaining hospitalized due to a lack of social responses. The PS proposes strengthening primary care, meeting response times, and coordinating health with other areas.
