The Pestana Hotel Group, the largest multinational hotel group of Portuguese origin, has announced it has achieved Green Key certification for all its hotel units in Portugal and Spain. This distinction reinforces the group's commitment to increasingly sustainable hotel management and operational practices, as part of the Planet Guest program.
The Green Key certification, promoted by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and coordinated in Portugal by ABAAE, is an international seal recognizing compliance with strict criteria in environmental management, energy and water efficiency, waste management, and responsible use of local and ecological products.
Luís Castanheira Lopes, administrator of the Pestana Group, stated that sustainability is an integral part of the group's identity, guiding its business development through resource efficiency, valuing local communities, and promoting a more responsible tourism model. The group has invested over 16 million euros in energy efficiency over the past decade, leading to a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions per occupied room between 2019 and 2025.
