Pope Leo XIV Recovering Well, Thanks Prayers and Urges Families Towards Mission

Pope Leo XIV is recovering well after surgery, expressing gratitude for prayers and encouraging families to be active in the Church.

Pope Leo XIV is in good spirits and recovering following thoracic surgery to remove a lung adenocarcinoma. This was announced by Matteo Bruni, director of the Holy See Press Office, who also stated the Pontiff celebrated Mass at the hospital.

In a message released on Wednesday, the Pope thanked participants of an international family meeting at the Vatican for their prayers and work. He regretted his inability to attend personally but urged attendees to share their experiences with their dioceses and continue proclaiming the Gospel to families.

The Pontiff expressed his hope for families to become increasingly active participants in the life and mission of their local churches. He concluded by asking for prayers for himself, assuring his own prayers for them, and granting his Apostolic Blessing.
