The Porto Santo Municipal Council has announced the doubling of the municipal tourist tax, which will increase from the current two euros to four euros per overnight stay.
This measure aims to enhance the municipality's financial capacity to meet the growing demands of tourism and ensure necessary investments for the island's sustainability and development.
According to the council, the decision comes at a time when Porto Santo, despite tourism's importance, receives the lowest state transfers among municipalities, limiting its investment capacity and ability to address the population's needs.
