The Portuguese mission from the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection was called for a particularly delicate operation in La Guaira.
On Saturday, the team was mobilized to a 14-story building in the area most devastated by a double earthquake, after an indication of a possible sign of life under the rubble emerged. The alert came several days after the tragedy, and after various international teams had passed through the site without confirming the existence of survivors.
Given the complexity of the operation, Portuguese personnel conducted a new technical assessment, drawing on their accumulated experience during the mission, where they have already carried out some of the most significant rescues since the catastrophe began. Confidence in the Portuguese teams, especially after the rescue of Hernan Fernandes, remains intact with Venezuelan authorities and international forces.
