PPM raises safety concerns over Lobo Marinho ferry operation

The PPM party has voiced concerns about the Lobo Marinho ferry operating with a faulty engine, citing international and national maritime safety laws.

The PPM party has expressed concern over the operation of the Lobo Marinho ferry, which has suffered a malfunction in one of its propulsion engines, leaving the vessel operating with only one functional engine.

According to the PPM, this practice violates international laws, such as the SOLAS Convention (Safety of Life at Sea), and national laws of the DGRM (Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services). The party detailed that a ferry cannot begin a commercial voyage with passengers using only one engine if its certification and capacity require two or more.

The PPM calls on the authorities to take preventative measures, citing potential fines, loss of certificates, and even criminal liability for the captain and company administrators in case of an accident, warning of the risk of a catastrophe.
