The Association for the Promotion of Free Education (APEL) has sadly announced the passing of Professor António Alberto da Silva Jesus on September 23rd. Professor Jesus, who taught Mathematics at the APEL School for 45 years, was also an active figure in various management and administrative boards of the institution.
Born in Funchal in 1943, António Jesus had an extensive teaching career that included roles at the Liceu Nacional do Funchal and the Escola Industrial e Comercial do Funchal. After a period collaborating with the Regional Government as Head of Cabinet for the Regional Secretariat of Education, he returned to teaching at APEL in 1980, remaining there until his retirement.
At APEL, in addition to teaching, he served as Administrative and Financial Director and President of the APEL Board of Directors. APEL, its faculty, students, and staff extend their condolences to his family and friends. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 26th, at 12:00 PM, at the Parish Church of São Martinho.
