The Socialist Party (PS) accuses the Regional Government of Madeira of only responding to health problems when they reach "breaking point." This criticism follows a meeting with the National Union of Higher Health Technicians in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Areas (STSS) and recent resignations by radiology professionals.
Marta Freitas, a PS deputy, recalled that despite the announcement of hiring 14 Higher Technicians in Diagnostics and Therapeutics (TSDT) by the end of the year, the party had already warned about the insufficiency of these numbers. The union points to the urgent need for 54 TSDTs, with a global shortage estimated at 130 professionals, in addition to the lack of a Director Technician.
The PS believes the response announced by the authorities does not match the scale of the problem, indicating a lack of planning and structural solutions. The deputy stated that the pattern of professionals reaching their limit, submitting resignations, and only then new hiring announcements appearing demonstrates a reactive approach and "last-minute solutions." The situation is seen as a structural problem, not isolated incidents, and the party advocates for serious and timely planning of human resources for the Regional Health Service.
