The Socialist Party (PS) has presented a draft resolution in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira recommending the implementation of remote work incentives. Deputy Sílvia Silva highlighted that this measure aims to ease the pressure on Madeiran families, exacerbated by rising energy costs.
Silva pointed out that the worsening energy prices have a significant impact on Madeira, given its high dependence on imported fossil fuels. This situation leads to a considerable increase in travel costs, becoming unsustainable for businesses and workers. Additionally, the proposal considers the road mobility constraints in Funchal, with frequent traffic congestion.
Remote work, according to the PS, can reduce fuel consumption, lower family expenses, and alleviate pressure on road infrastructure. The proposal suggests adopting hybrid models of voluntary remote work in the regional public administration, applicable to roles compatible with non-face-to-face work, aiming to increase the remote work rate in the region, which is currently below the national average.
