The Socialist Party Parliamentary Group (PS-M) has submitted a motion of condolence to the Legislative Assembly of Madeira following the death of José Viale Moutinho.
The PS-M highlights that the work of Viale Moutinho, a writer and journalist, represents a significant contribution to Madeiran culture and Portuguese literature. Over more than five decades of literary activity, he dedicated himself to poetry, fiction, theatre, essays, and children's and youth literature, with works translated into various languages that took Madeiran literature beyond its borders.
The party also recalls his collection of popular tales and legends from Madeira and Porto Santo, contributing to the preservation of this heritage. José Viale Moutinho received several awards, including the Grande Prémio de Conto Camilo Castelo Branco and the Grande Prémio de Literatura dst-Domingos da Silva Teixeira. The PS-M considers his passing a loss for Portuguese culture and, particularly, for Madeira.
