PS-Madeira President Célia Pessegueiro highlighted rising fuel prices, food costs, housing, and mobility issues as major concerns regarding the cost of living in the region.
Speaking at the PS Parliamentary Conference, Pessegueiro urged the Regional Government to introduce measures to ease the burden on families, specifically advocating for a reduction in the Tax on Petroleum Products (ISP).
She stated that the ISP in Madeira is higher than on the mainland and argued that lowering it would have a cascading positive effect, impacting not only fuel prices but also service tariffs and the overall cost of goods. Pessegueiro noted that a 50-liter fuel tank, costing around 70 euros at the start of the year, now exceeds 100 euros.
In addition to fuel, the PS-Madeira also prioritizes the cost of the food "basket," challenging analyses that exclude cleaning and hygiene products from family expenses. Housing and mobility, including public transport services, were also cited as areas of concern.
