The PS-Madeira party has called for stronger support under the PRAHABITAR programme, proposing to raise the maximum rental aid from 250 to 400 euros and to lift home-purchase co-funding to as much as 35,000 euros.
At a press conference in Funchal, party leader Célia Pessegueiro said the Socialists will present a reform proposal to the Madeira Regional Legislative Assembly, with the changes included in the 2027 Regional Budget. The party would keep the 10% co-funding rate but remove the current 15,000-euro cap.
Pessegueiro argued that the existing ceiling is not enough to encourage young couples to buy a home, and criticised the one million euro allocation in the 2026 budget, which she said would cover only about 66 families at the maximum amount.
