Socialist deputy Gonçalo Leite Velho has presented a legislative decree proposal to establish a Regional Observatory for Logistics Insularity Costs. The initiative aims to quantify the actual costs associated with Madeira's insular status.
Leite Velho highlighted that while the cost of insularity has been discussed for decades, a precise understanding of its logistical impact remains elusive. The proposed observatory would gather and process data on maritime transport prices, fuel surcharges, and other logistics chain components.
This information would enable the quarterly publication of a Madeira Maritime Freight Price Index, fostering greater transparency and informed decision-making for businesses operating on the island.
