A reader's comment questioning the frequency of drunk driving arrests prompted an analysis of the Public Security Police (PSP) weekly reports.

An examination of 32 weekly road accident reports issued by the PSP since the beginning of the year revealed an average of nearly 13 drivers arrested weekly for driving under the influence. The highest number of arrests, 41, was recorded between December 19 and January 8.

In total, the analyzed reports documented 413 arrests for driving while intoxicated, averaging 12.9 arrests per week. The lowest weekly figure was five arrests, recorded between April 24 and April 29.
