The Regional Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) in Madeira registered a total of 73 road traffic accidents between August 28 and September 3, 2026. These incidents caused 21 minor injuries and 2 serious injuries, with no fatalities reported.
The Funchal municipality had the highest number of occurrences with 24 accidents, followed by Porto Moniz with 10 and São Vicente with 9. Other municipalities such as Santa Cruz, Câmara de Lobos, Ribeira Brava, Calheta, Ponta do Sol, Santana, Machico, and Porto Santo also reported accidents.
During the same period, the PSP conducted enforcement operations that led to the arrest of 13 individuals. The arrests were for road traffic offenses, including driving under the influence of alcohol (7 cases), driving without a legal license (3 cases), and various forms of disobedience, such as driving with a suspended license or refusing to undergo alcohol or psychotropic substance tests.
