Public Prosecutor indicts Filipe Sousa for suspected undue advantage

The Public Prosecutor's Office has indicted JPP deputy Filipe Sousa on suspicion of an undue receipt or offer of advantage. A request for the waiver of his parliamentary immunity is currently being reviewed by the Assembly of the Republic's Transparency Committee.

The case concerns an alleged practice while he was president of the Santa Cruz Municipal Chamber. The Public Prosecutor suspects that Filipe Sousa entered into a vehicle rental contract in February 2025, for which the company's manager decided not to charge the rent due to the deputy's position. The Prosecutor's Office believes Sousa accepted this undue financial benefit.

Filipe Sousa contests the suspicions, arguing that his term as Municipal Chamber president was suspended at the time of the contract and during its use, as he was a candidate in the regional elections. He presented documents which, according to him, show he never negotiated a waiver of payment and that the invoice was issued and paid later. The deputy requested that his statement and documents be sent to the court for re-evaluation.
