The REAGIR party has criticized the inauguration of the Santa Clara Social Complex, arguing that the new facility does not address Madeira's chronic shortage of nursing home places.
According to REAGIR, out of the 85 available beds, only 20 are designated for social care. An additional 15 beds will be reserved for patients awaiting placement in other social care facilities after hospital discharge. The party suggests this highlights that the issue of delayed hospital discharges stems from a lack of social care services.
REAGIR advocates for an integrated strategy rather than isolated measures. They question how the government plans to reduce a waiting list of over 1,200 people when only 20 new social care beds are provided, in addition to those for hospital discharges.
