The building of the Regional Secretariat for Health and Civil Protection and Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital were illuminated in orange to mark World Patient Safety Day.
The initiative, joining the World Health Organization's (WHO) campaign, symbolizes the prevention of risks in healthcare, with this year's theme focusing on 'Safe care for non-communicable diseases' and the slogan 'Safe care for life!'. The region thus reinforces the protection of citizens with chronic conditions.
The commemorative program included conferences on prevention and screening, as well as the dissemination of educational content on medication safety, fall prevention, and patient identification. In 2025, nearly two thousand risk notifications were registered in SESARAM's Global Risk Management application.
Micaela Freitas, the regional secretary, highlighted the ethical duty of patient safety and the Regional Government's commitment to investing in integrated systems and community-based care.
