The public tender for the construction of access and safety infrastructure between Caminho da Barreira and Curral Velho, in the upper areas of Santo António, Funchal, received four bids.
The project, launched in July by the Regional Secretariat for Equipment and Infrastructure, has a base price of 8.39 million euros, plus VAT. The submitted bids range between 8.2 and 8.8 million euros.
The jury has begun its analysis, and following the necessary procedures, the work is expected to commence in early 2027. The intervention involves building a road approximately 1,800 meters long, connecting Caminho da Barreira to Curral Velho, which will benefit around a thousand families and improve access for civil protection services.
The new road will also serve as a firebreak, incorporating a fire network, a water reservoir with a capacity of 1,250 cubic meters, and fire hydrants. The project reinforces the Regional Government's strategy for forest fire prevention and combat, as well as improving access and safety infrastructure.
