Regional Government Supports Raw Material Transport for Porto Santo Bakeries

The Regional Government of Madeira, through the Regional Secretariat for Economy, has announced the creation of exceptional and temporary support for baking and pastry businesses in Porto Santo. This measure aims to compensate for raw material transport costs, covering 90% of verified expenses up to a limit of 10,000 euros.

The support covers costs incurred from September 1st until the end of 2026, specifically for the maritime transport of raw materials shipped from Madeira Island to Porto Santo. It is an addition to an existing support scheme for sensitive sectors facing rising fuel prices.

Regional Secretary for Economy, José Manuel Rodrigues, stated that the measure seeks to alleviate the burdens of "double insularity," which increase operational costs and reliance on maritime transport. The goal is to ensure fairer competition and prevent higher logistics costs from being fully passed on to consumers.
