The Funchal Cultural and Research Center (CCIF) hosted a roundtable discussion titled 'Memory and Identity – Migrations and Diaspora: the role of grandparents'. The initiative, promoted by the Funchal City Council through its Diaspora and Migrations Unit, was part of the Grandparents' Day celebrations.
Jorge Carvalho, the mayor, highlighted the importance of grandparents as a "repository of memories" and crucial elements in building family and social identity, emphasizing the transmission of values and traditions across generations.
The session featured specialists from various fields, including Betânia Costa (psychologist), Graça Alves (MASF director), Andreia Baptista (cultural mediator), Carlos Pestana (head of the Longevity and Well-being Division), and Márcia Rodrigues (teacher). The event included musical performances, a story reading, shared experiences, and an open debate with the audience.
